Appearance

Leon is rather tall, something around 6'2. Though he's thin, he doesn't exactly have an athletic build. He has brown hair and blue eyes and doesn't tan easily, so he'll often have his face a bit red for being in the sun for too long. He wears a pair of square blue small glasses for reading and disassembling stuff, and they're usually in his shirt pocket because he never knows when he'll need them. He has his hair usually cut short. He tends to let his beard grow to a stubble, because it makes him look a bit older, and he's done with looking like a teenager. He always wears jeans and button shirts, no matter the weather. Unless it's too cold, which means he'll have a coat on.

He's got his daughter's name -- Lia -- tattooed on his chest.

Leon's expression usually isn't one of a very happy man, though also not that of one that hates everything in life. Mostly he maintains a calm and serious expression in his face, his eyes wandering around as he walks. He rarely smiles, unless he's doing it for his nephew, and when he does it's hardly a convincing smile.

Personality

Most of the time, Leon is annoyingly calm. Or at least he seems to be calm. He's not much of a talker, but he will never miss an oportunity for a good photo. He likes the company of interesting people when they don't ask too much about him.

It can take quite some time before Leon can consider anyone a friend. He doesn't trust people too easily and is actually very suspicious about people's intentions every time he meets someone new. He believes everyone has two faces and one will have a hard time convincing otherwise. For that reason, and because it can be a bit exaustive for him to simply be rude to people he doesn't like, he lies a lot, specially if that will prevent people from asking too many questions about him. Yet, Leon tries hard to be friendly because he feels too lonely when he doesn't. But some can figure he's forcing himself to be that way.

He is often in a lightly irritated mood and will sometimes snap if someone talks to him in the wrong tone of voice. That might be a bit surprising because it doesn't seem to fit him. Leon tries too hard to look calm, but inside he's a volcano about to explode. Mostly, that just makes him very tired and gets him nowhere.

Leon has a tendency to find things to distract him from whatever it is that might be bothering him. He doesn't feel too comfortable sharing his problems with other people and thinks talking about feelings is overrated. To hell with talking. When it comes to a subject that interests him, though, Leon can't hide a passion. He could go on for hours talking about mechanics.

Personal History

Leon was born and raised in Boston. His father and mother were both journalists and worked like crazy. Despite that, they tried their best to be good parents, and Leon never had problems with them. His little sister was born when he was 5, and ever since then he has always been the protective older brother, making sure she didn't get into any trouble and, if she did, making sure he was there for her.

He always had a thing for learning. As a kid, he liked to "invent" stuff or disassemble a radio or a new toy. He went to college without any idea of what he really wanted. Leon just liked studying so much he felt he could be there forever. He was going to major on Physics, but decided exact sciences weren't really his thing. His sister liked to say it was the weird teacher types that freaked him out. Truth was things were getting a bit too abstract for him. He went for Linguistics, not because he thought that it would get him anywhere, but because he thought it would be a fun thing to study and he loved languages.

He was 21 when he started dating a girl named Julia. She was a friend from high school, but she had left with her family to France after they graduated and just then had returned. Both had all sorts of wild plans for their lives, and none of them knew what to do with that. So it was a perfect match.

But Julia got pregnant when they had been together for only five months. Since she was alone in Boston, Leon moved in with her and took the first job he could get: lighting assistant at the tv channel his father was working at the time. It was time he abandoned his indecision about what to do with his life. Julia's job didn't pay much, but they thought with time things would all be okay.

Turned out they didn't. The baby hadn't even been born and they were already arguing a lot about the child and their lives together. Leon left college so he could work more and make more money. After Lia was born, things only got worse. Leon missed the time when all he had to do was study, and Julia missed not having to tell anyone where she was and what she was doing. Since Leon couldn't help being the protective type he'd always been, their relationship slowly went through the drain. In Lia's 4th birthday, Julia ran away with their daughter. Julia had been really nice to him the week before, and they had decided to give Lia a nice birthday, with a cake and lots of presents. Leon was running late for that, and when he got home there was no one there. He never heard of them again. She left a note by the cake she'd made for Lia, asking Leon not to go after them.

Of course he did. Leon even went to Bordeaux, in France, after Julia's parents, hoping they would know something -- or maybe he would find out if they were hiding something. But they knew nothing as well, and seemed as worried as Leon was.

Leon seemed to stop looking, but he never really gave up. He had moved back in with his parents, though he couldn't feel confortable facing them after what had happened. He quit his job and started playing with his father's old photography material. He would buy old cameras just to disassemble them and figure out how they worked.

His sister Kathleen got pregnant when Leon was 27. At first she wouldn't tell him who the father was, and when the baby was born their parents assumed it was her boyfriend's Ethan. Leon -- and Ethan -- knew it wasn't. Eventually, she told Leon the father was Fionn Gallagher, a friend from college, who had left Boston shortly before Cian was born. But Kathleen convinced Leon it didn't matter. She and Ethan had just started dating, but the guy seemed pretty much in love. They were happy, she had a supportive family and that was all that mattered. Leon tried to convince Kathleen to talk to the boy's father, and kept tabs on Fionn for some time.

She did talk to Fionn, once. But never told him about Cian. She figured he was too happy and didn't want to mess with his life, since hers war perfectly okay. To Leon, she just say she couldn't find him. Either way, she didn't want to find him. Things were fine. Fionn had no idea he had a child and Ethan was a loving father.

Leon could live with that. His interest in photography grew larger, and when his father started a sports magazine, Leon started doing some freelance work for it. He started getting his life back together and even started meeting women his sister would introduce him to. Kathleen had been doing that quite a lot then.

That was his life for the following years. Photography, meeting women his sister made him meet, eventually going after something that might lead him to his daughter, being mr. uncle to Cian. He still lived with his parents and had no plans to move out. His mother loved having him around again.

Leon wanted to believe in destiny and hope one day his Lia would simply knock on his door and just be there for him. He knew things didn't work like that, but still had no idea of what to do. His daughter could be anywhere. For all he knew, they could be in China, or Argentina or maybe a small town in Mexico.

He spent a lot of time with his nephew and would babysit him every time his sister had to work or just wanted a night out with Ethan. It was in one of those night outs that the two of them never returned. They were both killed in a car accident.

Leon just wanted to dig a hole in a land far away and never come out again. He forced himself to be tough for Cian. After a whole lot of arguing with his parents, they agreed that he would go after Cian's biological father. He figured the boy deserved a father. Better yet, he figured he would be one to tell if that Fionn fellow could actually be the father Cian deserved. That has been working out okay for the time being.

Other stuff: Leon is far-sighted because of a little incident when he was in high school. When he was a senior, he was the school's goalkeeper in the soccer team and got hit by the ball a bit too hard in the head once. That damaged his eye sight. (Either way, it didn't stop him from finishing the school year as one of the best keepers in the school's history).
