A New York native, Samuel Hughes knows the streets and the inner workings of the city just as well as he knows his own name. Both of his parents were New York natives, and continue to live there.

His childhood was a relatively normal one. His father was never too thrilled with Samuel’s infatuation with the theatre, holding with the old stereotype that all men with an interest in art were homosexuals. Try as he might, Samuel was unable to persuade his father any differently until he became engaged. It was then that his father clapped him on the back, offered him a cigar and a beer, but still bemoaned the fact that his son had made a career out of directing.

High school had been an interesting time for Samuel. His interest in theatre made him a target for the other teens, but he was large enough that they only said things behind his back and in a manner that would not have them targeted. He did play sports, football mostly, but he knew where his heart lay.

The theatre proved to be a very lucrative career for Samuel. In more ways than one. He was successful as a Stage Manger, he saved money, and worked hard. The word got passed around that he wasn’t afraid of work and would put his all into the project. And so work continued to come, and with the work came a college student majoring in Technical Theatre. A spitfire of a woman who already knew what she wanted and how to get it. Renea caught Sam’s attention almost straight away. The way she followed direction and seemed to know almost instinctively what was needed next. She came with her own ideas and presented them well.

Samuel was smitten. But Renea was unrelenting. She was cold and walled. Little by little Samuel worked at those walls. With the help of a mutual friend, Darcie, Samuel managed to convince Renea to give him a try. And she did. Over time her walls of ice thawed to him and the two worked well together.

When Samuel got the idea to propose to Renea he enlisted Darcie to help him with the details. No typical proposal would work. Nothing too flashy in front of a crowd of people either. Renea was still guarded around others. It wasn’t easy, but Samuel and Darcie worked together to make it so that while Renea was at work one evening, painting late into the night, the can of paint she’d open was deceivingly heavy. There was no paint in it at all, but sand and a ring box stuck inside.

The rest, as they say, is history in the making.

When it comes to Renea, Samuel is protective, at ease, and loving all at once. At work, he is a business man and a 'visionary' though he detests directors who claim to have a "vision". His humor takes some getting used to, nor is he shy. He is as outgoing as Renea is not. The two balance eachother well. His dedication both to his fiancee and his job are beyond reproach.
