Seth Cuthbert NPC - up for adoption Vitals
Name: Seth Cuthbert Appearance Height: 6' 2 1/2" Weight: 200lbs Build: Average, but reasonably muscled from frequent exercise Eyes: very pale blue Hair: Dark brown, cropped close to his head. Complexion: fairly pale, he's British Glasses: he always wears sunglasses outside and sometimes inside depending on the light, but no prescription glasses Scars: A few here and there from tumbles as a child Tattoos/Piercing: None Usually wears: eveyrthing he wears is perpetually slightly rumpled no matter how careful he is not to wrinkle things. At work he wears slacks, button up white oxfords with the top button undone, tie pulled down a few inches and an optional sport jacket. He tends towards darker suits and only white oxfords. When he is not at work he wears jeans, a leather jacket, assorted t-shirts and pullovers depending on the season. He tends towards the monochromatic or neutral colours. Never wears: shorts if he can avoid it Personality Seth can be difficult to approach at first, he hates asking or accepting help to do anything or admitting he has a problem. However, he is a consumate professional and will do nearly anything to get the job done and done correctly. He is also a perfectionist and demands it of himself and others while at work, but not from his son. He loves his son dearly and will move heaven and earth to do things for him if needed. One of his biggest regrets is that he cannot see his son grow up.
Once you get past his crusty exterior though, he has a wicked senses of humour and loves a good football match and going out with the guys. He is still learning about what he can and cannot do, but he will give almost anything a try once. The exception to this is relationships, he was in one towards the beginning of his vision problems which ended badly and he had not been in one since. He is scared to love and to love another. Personal History Originally from London, England, Seth moved to America a year after his ex-wife and son moved to be closer to his son. Seth Cuthbert entered the police academy after he finished secondary school following in his fathers footsteps. He excelled at it and was quickly fast tracked towards detective. He married Marsha when he was 23 after dating her for two years. They had a son almost immediately after and separated when he was only 5 years old, which eventually led to a divorce. Seth is a workaholic which is what directly led to his divorce, but it also enabled him to be promoted much faster than he otherwise would have. While at the height of his career as a Detective Chief Inspector in charge of his own unit, he began having difficulties with his eyes. Things became blurry at random and lights would starburst and hurt his eyes. He was diagnosed with azoor, a rare virus that targets the rods and cones in a persons eyes. In many cases, people with azoor have significant vision loss if not complete blindness. Seth was no exception to this and reluctantly sold his car. He hid his growing disability from his coworkers for nearly six months by pretending to be an alcoholic until he was caught by three of his junionr detectives. They did not turn him in, but he chose to take an indefinate leave of absence rather than embarass himself or his department further. His public near-drunkenness was not entirely an act though, while he was coming to grips with the disease he became a borderline alcoholic, sober during the day at work, but unable to fall asleep without alcohol at night. He spent several months after that doing what his doctors had recommended since his initial diagnosis, going to occupational therapy and orientation and mobility training, not to mention sobering up. Not knowing what to do now that he was no longer a detective, he became a civilian consultant with the precinct, essentially his same job but without the title and responsibility. He was also forbidden to carry a weapon and they did their best to keep him out of danger.
When his exwife and her husband had the opportunity to move overseas, Seth was initially resistant, but he couldn't deny his son the oppotunity to study in the USA. He was able to arrange an exchange between the London and Pleasant Port court systems so he does something similar to before, but more to study the differences between the two systems than as an actual police officer. He is strictly a civillian. This has put him within an hour of his son and he has custody of him every other weekend and most school holidays. His drinking is now under control. Job Seth works at the Court House on 14 Main Street, he assists in cases and serves as a liason between the courts and the police.
